About the Event

Join us for a day dedicated to leaders in literacy. 

Dr. Mitchell Brookins has spent years studying, exploring, and refining his practices to improve student learning. He has taught on the South Side of Chicago; been a district leader of RtI and literacy in Chicago Public Schools; served as a school administrator in Chicago Public Schools and New Orleans; and currently acts as senior director with Leading Educators, supporting professional learning systems in Baltimore City Schools. Mitchell also serves as literacy content reviewer for EdReports; professional learning facilitator for the National Board Professional Teaching Standards, UnboundEd, LETRS, AIM Institute, and New Schools for New Orleans;  and a member of the Board of Directors for The Reading League. 

Susan Lambert will share her research and knowledge related to the Science of Reading and its impact on literacy instruction. Before the event, you’ll want to tune in to Susan’s Science of Reading: The Podcast, where she explores timely topics in early literacy instruction.

Meet our Featured Speakers

Susan Lambert

In addition to being the host of the widely popular Science of Reading: The Podcast, Susan Lambert is also the chief academic officer for elementary humanities at Amplify. She joined Amplify in 2013 after over 15 years of experience working in K-12 education at school districts across the country. She served as a teacher and graduation standards coach at Rochester Community Schools (Rochester, MN) and curriculum coordinator at the Network of International Christian Schools (Southaven, MS). Before joining Amplify, Susan spent over eight years with the National Heritage Academies (Grand Rapids, Michigan) serving as principal, director of curriculum, senior director of curriculum and assessment, and senior director of specialized learning programs. Susan holds a bachelor of science and master of science in elementary education from Winona State University, has completed advanced coursework in educational policy at Michigan State University, and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree at Mount St. Joseph University.
