What I genuinely love about teaching is the beautiful chaos of it all. The days are sometimes loud, sometimes messy, always unpredictable and somehow full of fun! I love the moments when a concept finally clicks and a student’s face lights up with that ‘aha!' moment and everything clicks into place. I love the conversations that go off our ‘scripts' and the questions that make us think as well as watching the growth in our children that happens in ways no lesson plan could ever capture. Every moment, both big and small, are the reasons I love going to school!

I love that every day is different! I love their little faces when I say ‘good morning’ when I tell them I am glad to see them again after being absent, when they come and tell me about something they are looking forward to, some victory in math and science. I love being witness to the little mundane and great happiness that comes with this age!

My favorite parts of teaching are those days when the lesson went all right, but the kids are talking and the conversations are where the growth is happening—content or just socially connecting with classmates they don't usually connect with. It's a beautiful chaos that doesn't happen outside of school and I can sit back and take in their conversations or join in.

Kids make the best coworkers, and every day I love learning with them and from them.
