The teacher did something amazing, something that helped her students learn more about math and more about themselves as mathematicians. The teacher said, "This would be correct if the problem was . . ."
That experience taught me that it's a good thing to let students know when their answers are incorrect.
And it's a good thing to let students know how to find the correct answer.
And it's fantastic when we can help students see what is brilliant about even their wrong answers. One way to do that is by showing them a problem where their wrong answer would have been right. A different world.
