Dear {{custom.firstName}},

In an episode of the Math Teachers Lounge podcast, Bethany Lockhart Johnson says, “I have no doubt that if you ask someone in your life for their math biography that you will discover things about them that you never knew.”

In Our Math Stories, students have the opportunity to discover things about themselves and each other by creating and sharing graphs of their math stories.

A graph with age in years on the x axis and positivity of math experiences on the y axis.

Students might be nervous about sharing their math experiences. We can encourage them to lean in by modeling vulnerability.

Consider launching Activity 2 by sharing your math story. How did you feel about math when you were your students’ age? How about in college? How do you feel about math now? Sharing your math story not only inspires your students to reflect on their own experiences, it also allows students to discover something about you that they may not have known.
