Hi {{custom.firstName}},

In Break Through: Exponentials, we do the seemingly impossible.

We invite students to be creative and have fun — all while writing exponential functions.

A screen where students try to break four targets at the points (1,2), (2,2), (3,2), and (4,2) using as few exponential equations as they can.

There are several ways students can complete the challenge above. Some students might use four equations to break all the targets. Others might use three, two, or even just one equation.

Celebrate the uniqueness of each solution!

Sharing the many ways students can think about these challenges will nudge them to be playful, get creative, and take risks. When students take ownership of their play, let them lead.

The dashboard will be your best friend during this activity. Use the teacher view to keep track of student work. Pause the class to highlight fun and creative solutions. Let students lead by writing down a list of student-generated ideas and questions that come from looking at each other's work. By the time you unpause the activity, you’ll be amazed at how students have inspired each other to think about mathematics in new ways.
