Hi {{custom.firstName}},

Learning can often feel like a race won and lost by individuals. Did I get the right or wrong answer? What is my grade? I love opportunities to help students understand that learning is a team sport where we can win together.

In “More Than One?” we ask students, “What information would you give Roberto so that he can create a triangle identical to Luca's?”

7.7.7

Consider using the pacing tool to keep students together here for a moment. Then consider sharing responses that grow the class’s collective understanding.

For example, you might see student responses that get more and more precise like these:

  • Put both angles touching the base of the triangle
  • The two sides are less than 7 units
  • Put the 35 in the right hand corner put the 50 in the left and the 7 on the bottom

Or you might see responses that capture entirely different aspects of the scenario like these:

  • Roberto should have put the 35-degree angle at the bottom right of the triangle.
  • The side of 7 goes between the two given angles

Sharing these responses will hopefully help students understand the value of their own thinking, but also that all of us are smarter than one of us.

Great advice from other teachers.

Let students play, explore, and share on Screen 3 rather than demo-ing yourself since doing the demo is likely to give away the answer.
