Dear {{custom.firstName}},

We get excited thinking about the things that could happen during a Desmos Curriculum lesson. What gets us extra excited about How Hot Is It? are the conversations that could happen after the lesson ends.

Take a look at screen 10.

An image of two graphs of income and temperature vs. tree coverage in Philadelphia.

Students are invited to share what they would change about an unfair situation. We anticipate they will share ideas that go beyond the math of this lesson. Lean in to that.

After you discuss their responses, ask students what they are still wondering about. They might say, “What did the city of Philadelphia do in response to this data?” or “What does this data look like for our city?” Give yourself permission to start exploring these questions.

Don’t worry about ending this lesson with all the answers. Instead, lean in to the new questions that arise. Our hope is that students will continue to have conversations after the lesson is over.
